2023 First Optoelectronics Industry Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition## Contest IntroductionZhongshan is located at the geometric center of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. Within an hour’s travel distance, there are five major international airports, four major international ports, as well as key transportation projects such as the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Channel and Nanzhong Intercity Railway. These will significantly reduce the distance between Zhongshan and Shenzhen, Guangzhou, and promote integrated and urbanized development. As a “beautiful city with favorable investment conditions,” Zhongshan is ready to embrace entrepreneurs and innovative talents with open arms, providing them with fertile ground for growth.

Zhongshan boasts a strong manufacturing foundation and complete industrial support systems. Since the reform and opening up, it has regarded the optoelectronics industry as one of its pillar industries. To date, Zhongshan’s optoelectronics sector has developed a leading industrial framework centered on optoelectronic components, supported by high-end optical communications, next-generation optoelectronic displays, and advanced laser equipment. Building on this, at the beginning of this year, the municipal Party committee and government proposed turning the optoelectronics industry into one of the “new top ten fleet” industrial clusters that will drive Zhongshan’s future development. Currently, the Torch Development Zone, as a hub for the city’s optoelectronics industry, focuses on creating a world-class optoelectronics industry platform—“Bay Area Optics Valley.” By strategically developing cutting-edge areas in optoelectronics, focusing on optical sensing, optical displays, and laser applications, the zone has attracted over a hundred well-known optoelectronics companies along with numerous upstream and downstream related enterprises. The establishment of Changchun University of Science and Technology, known as the “cradle of Chinese optical talents,” in Zhongshan’s research institute further strengthens “Bay Area Optics Valley” This competition focuses on attracting talents and projects in areas such as laser devices and equipment, optoelectronic energy devices, optoelectronic communication devices, high-efficiency lighting devices, optical devices, and key optoelectronic materials. Relying on distinctive state-owned enterprises in the region, it offers professional, integrated, platform-based, capital-driven, and internationalized services. Through comprehensive and wide-ranging promotion, it aims to bring competitive projects and top-tier talents to Zhongshan. By leveraging technological innovation, it accelerates the advancement of Zhongshan’s optoelectronics industry, kicks off the rapid development of the “Bay Area Optics Valley,” and creates a new growth engine for this industry.

Competition Formats

I. Startup Group1. The enterprise should have innovation capabilities and high growth potential, focusing on technology product research, development, manufacturing, production, and services.

2. The project must belong to the optoelectronics industry.
3. The company must be registered and operating in the market, with less than 5 years since registration at the deadline of this competition.
4. It should possess independent intellectual property rights without any ownership disputes.
5. The enterprise must operate in a standardized manner, have a good social reputation, and no negative records.### II. Innovation Group1. Entrepreneurial teams that have not registered a company by the competition deadline but possess technological innovation achievements and business plans.
6. The project must belong to the optoelectronics industry. 3>College students with innovative projects such as inventions and creations are encouraged to participate.
7. The creativity, products, technologies, and related intellectual property rights of the project belong to the core team members, with no intellectual property disputes.

(I) Cash Prizes1. For both the Innovation Group and Startup Group, the awards include 1 first prize, 2 second prizes, 3 third prizes, and 9 excellence awards, along with cash prizes and medals.

2. The cash prizes for the Innovation Group are: 60,000 yuan for first prize, 30,000 yuan for second prize, 20,000 yuan for third prize, and 10,000 yuan for excellence awards.
3. The cash prizes for the Startup Group are: 100,000 yuan for first prize, 50,000 yuan for second prize, 30,000 yuan for third prize, and 10,000 yuan for excellence awards.
