The climate crisis is imminent. On the road to the "double carbon" goal and the transition to low-carbon and green, cities are the front-line force in addressing climate change, and communities are the key action unit in building low-carbon and resilient cities.

How to make cities and communities greener and more prosperous? How to take the lead in achieving "carbon neutrality" at the community level? C40 hopes that young students can share their creativity and insights with the world.

From October 2022 to July 2023, C40 held the second "C40 Student Global Competition to Reshape the City." Community projects in 10 international cities including Luhu Park Community in Chengdu City, Shiyezhou Island in Zhenjiang City and Amman, Barcelona, Durban, Freetown, Lisbon, Melbourne, Milan, New Orleans, Rome, and Sao Paulo were selected as competition topics.

The C40 is open to young people around the world and officially launched a team to recruit students to participate. It invites young people around the world to participate in exploring solutions to reshape cities and accelerate global climate action!

**01 Chengdu Luhu Park Community **

    Introduction:
Luhu is located in Chengdu City, on both sides of Tianfu Avenue, the city's century-long axis, and belongs to Tianfu New District, a national-level new district. Luhu Park Community is the first model community in Tianfu New District to build a park city. The total planned area exceeds 8300 acres and the estimated population will reach 150,000 people. Luhu has a water area of 1.6 million square meters and is a famous urban lake wetland in Chengdu. Luhu Park Community has good transportation connections. It is a 30-minute drive from Luhu to the new and old airports. It is also equipped with two subway stations: Hongshi Park and Luhu. As an open international community, Luhu Park Community integrates high-quality residential areas, industry-city integrated parks and national 4A-level scenic spots. Its city-scale layout achieves the integration of living and living.

The area selected in this competition is the starting point of Luhu, the most active area in the Luhu community and the newly built demonstration area. The competition plan should aim to formulate strategies focusing on four major areas: complete communities, people-oriented transportation, green buildings and energy, and recycling resources. The recommended measures should help Luhu Park Community achieve the goal of "near-zero carbon community".

    **02 Zhenjiang Shiyezhou Island **

    Introduction:
Shiyezhou Island is located in Shiye Town, western Zhenjiang, and is the fourth largest island in the Yangtze River. The market town covers an area of 1.2 square kilometers, has a total population of 14,400, and has jurisdiction over 5 administrative villages. There are 120 hectares of natural open parks and wetland landscapes on the island, and it is known as Green Island in the River and Ecological Island. Runyang Bridge is a bridge that spans the Yangtze River and Shiyezhou from north to south, making transportation convenient on the island. In recent years, Shiyezhou has focused on developing green industries such as leisure tourism, efficient modern agriculture, and health preservation. Facing the future, Shiyezhou is striving to achieve carbon neutrality, promote the overall integration of climate change response and ecological and environmental protection, and promote high-quality development of agriculture and tourism. In addition, Shiyezhou aims to increase the carbon sink capacity of the ecosystem and build a "zero-carbon island" based on Shiyezhou's existing planning and ecological civilization construction foundation.

Shiyezhou Island was selected as the venue for this competition because of its potential to become a "carbon neutral island". The area identified is Shiyezhou Music Square in the north of the island. Students should consider innovative ideas and strategies for developing zero-carbon islands, with a special focus on sustainable waste management, recycling, resource consumption, sustainable tourism and the development of green energy infrastructure, while protecting the natural environment.
