Forum Background
ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) represents new requirements and opportunities for enterprises in the new era, as well as a new path for the sustainable development of China’s economy. It will play a crucial role in China’s journey toward modernization. To promote academic exchanges in the field of ESG research, enhance research standards in this area, and foster the healthy development of ESG in China, the Fuguo ESG Research Institute at Shanghai University of Finance and Economics and the editorial department of Financial Research plan to jointly host the first China ESG Academic Forum in September 2023. The theme of the conference is “ESG in China’s Journey Toward Modernization.” The symposium will be held at Shanghai University of Finance and Economics from September 15–16, 2023 (Friday–Saturday). Its aim is to provide a high-quality platform for academic exchange among experts, scholars, and practitioners in the ESG field. It encourages in-depth research on key issues in ESG, shares the latest insights and cutting-edge research findings, and contributes to the innovative development of ESG globally. Contributions from all sectors are welcome.
Scope of Submissions
The forum is inviting submissions from scholars in the ESG field both domestically and internationally. Academic papers related to all aspects of ESG are welcome, including but not limited to: (1) ESG and capital markets; (2) ESG and information disclosure; (3) ESG and economic and legal policies; (4) ESG and the digital economy; (5) ESG and artificial intelligence; (6) Other ESG-related topics.

meeting formatsThe conference will be held offline and consist of keynote speeches and parallel forums. Three to five experts from academia and industry will deliver keynote speeches. Each paper presented at the parallel forums will have a presentation time of at least 30 minutes, with authoritative experts providing feedback. The specific schedule will be determined based on the selected papers, and the authors will be officially notified.
After the conference, organizers will have experts review all submitted papers and recommend outstanding ones for external review by Caijing Research. These papers may eventually be published in a special column. Depending on the publication status of the submitted papers, a collection of papers may also be published in 2024 or 2025.
Conference feesThere are no registration fees for the conference. The organizers will cover the meal expenses and up to two nights’ accommodation for all attendees in Shanghai (one author per academic paper), while transportation costs are to be borne by the attendees themselves. Doctoral students who need it can apply to the organizers for transportation subsidies.
Submission method
Submitted papers must be original and unpublished. They can be in either Chinese or English. Please refer to the formatting styles of published papers in Caijing Research and the American Economic Review. To facilitate anonymous evaluation and communication, author information (name, workplace, corresponding author, contact number, email address, etc.) should be listed on a separate cover page. Fuguo ESG Research Institute of Shanghai University of Finance and Economics: Established through a collaboration between Shanghai University of Finance and Economics and Fuguo Fund Management Co., Ltd., this institute operates as a university-level research institution at Shanghai University of Finance and Economics. Its mission is to gather research efforts from various parties to advance theoretical research, rule-making, and practical applications in the ESG field, contributing to global green, low-carbon, and sustainable development, as well as supporting China’s “dual carbon” strategy. Caijing Research: Founded in September 1956, Caijing Research is a comprehensive economic theory journal published by Shanghai University of Finance and Economics and available both domestically and internationally. It is included in China’s three major core journal databases: the Chinese Social Science Citation Index (CSSCI) by Nanjing University, the List of Core Chinese Journals by Peking University, and the List of Core Journals in Chinese Humanities and Social Sciences by the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences.
