The 3rd International Design Competition: Reshaping a carbon-neutral city
Contest Introduction
Over the years, climate change has affected the entire world, bringing many negative consequences, such as frequent extreme weather, rapid sea level rise, ocean acidification and biodiversity loss. It is said that in order to minimize this negative phenomenon, an effective action is to limit the rise in global temperatures to 1.5 degrees Celsius, a safe range recommended by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). The prerequisite for achieving this goal is to achieve carbon neutrality by the middle of the 21st century.
The competition aims to advance the world's goal of a carbon-neutral future from an architectural and urban-related perspective by encouraging participants to propose alternative ways to achieve sustainable city initiatives. To achieve this goal, contestants were asked to explore the possibilities of urban housing, urban space and technology implementation that could lead to larger-scale positive carbon change. Contestants are free to expand and modify existing designs, or they can propose new designs at selected venues.
The 3rd International Design Competition: Reshaping a Carbon Neutral City was jointly sponsored by the Ho Chi Minh City Economic University (UEH) of Vietnam and the Vung Tau City People's Committee and multiple co-organizers (including Handong International University, Milan Polytechnic University, University of Trieste, University of Melbourne, Seoul National University, Citiinks, UNIITI, OMGEVING, National University of Thailand, University of Leuven, Boston College of Architecture, Dayananda Sagar School of Architecture, ASPECT Studio, Lee Kuan Yew Innovation City Center). This year's competition was hosted by Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics, Vung Tau City People's Committee, University of Sydney, National Housing Organization of Vietnam and Handong Engineering and Construction Company.
