Program details

In August 2022, the China Environmental Protection Federation officially approved the establishment of the group standard for the "Guidelines for Traceability and Carbon Emission Reduction Accounting for the Recycling of Waste Plastics in Marine Operations". Units participating in the standard compilation are now publicly solicited.

The preparation of the group logo was led by Dr. Jiang Nanqing, Secretary-General of the Green Recycling and Inclusive Special Committee of the China Environmental Protection Federation, and an expert group was formed.

Companies, research institutions, social groups, media and other units are welcome to participate and make our efforts to protect oceans, biodiversity and climate change.

"Guidelines for Traceability Evaluation of Waste Plastic Recycling in Marine Operations and Accounting for Renewable Carbon Emission Reduction"

On August 25, 2022, the Green Recycling Inclusive Special Committee of the China Environmental Protection Federation organized and held a group standard project approval review meeting for the "Guidelines for Traceability Evaluation of Waste Plastic Recycling in Marine Operations and Renewable Carbon Emission Reduction Accounting". This review meeting was held through a combination of online and offline meetings. Guo Wenming, Vice Chairman of the China Environmental Protection Federation, attended the meeting and made a concluding speech. Luo Chunhui, head of the China Environmental Protection Federation's team standards, presided over the team standards review meeting.

This review meeting specially invited Li Daoji, professor of East China Normal University, Feng Xiangzhao, researcher of the Political Research Center of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, Wei Honglian, chief engineer of the Solid Waste Management Center of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, Chen Yuan, researcher of the Asia-Pacific Regional Center for the Basel Convention of Tsinghua University/United Nations Environment Agency, and Beijing Normal University Professor Zhao Yan, Zhou Li, researcher of the China Institute of Standardization, and Zhu Zhengguang, an official of the WWF Marine Project, formed a review committee to review the team bids and make suggestions.

Representatives from the Green Recycling Inclusive Special Committee of the China Environmental Protection Federation, Zhejiang Yingruite Renewable Materials Co., Ltd., Zhejiang Taihua New Materials Co., Ltd. and other group sponsors and the project implementation team attended this meeting in Jiaxing.

The "Guidelines for Traceability Evaluation and Recycling Carbon Emission Reduction Accounting for Waste Plastics in Marine Operations" group standard establishes a carbon emission reduction accounting method for waste plastics in marine operations, mainly fishing nets and fishing gear, to ensure the authenticity of marine plastic recycling and recycling data sources, establish a low-carbon cycle traceability evaluation system for the recycling process, and provide evaluation standards for subsequent certification of marine recycled products.

The expert group believes that this is a pioneering work of great significance. At present, there is still a lack of relevant domestic standards for marine waste plastics, and there are many challenges. I also hope that standards for the recycling and recycling of marine abandoned fishing nets in China will be introduced as soon as possible.

In the next step, the standard preparation unit will also carry out data research and standard preparation based on the opinions of all parties.
