Project Background and Objectives

To implement Xi Jinping’s important directives on carbon peak and carbon neutrality and promote the green, low-carbon, and circular development of the food delivery industry, under the guidance of the China Association for Science and Technology, Meituan, together with the Ecology and Environment Industry-University-Research Consortium of the China Association for Science and Technology, as well as relevant societies and institutions, has launched the “‘Innovative China’ Meituan Qingshan Environmental Protection Technology Innovation Demonstration Project” (hereinafter referred to as the “Demonstration Project”). This project aims to use technology to advance environmental protection and drive innovation through demonstration. It selects and supports a range of green, low-carbon technological achievements that can be applied in the food delivery sector, possess innovative leadership, and have potential for market expansion and scale-up, thereby contributing to achieving carbon peak and carbon neutrality goals and helping build a beautiful China. In accordance with the “Management Measures for the ‘Innovative China’ Meituan Qingshan Environmental Protection Technology Innovation Demonstration Project,” applications for funding for green, low-carbon environmental protection demonstration projects in the food delivery industry are now being solicited from the public.

Support Areas(I) [Green Innovative Packaging] The application of environment-friendly materials, green innovative designs, and advanced processes in the packaging sector for food delivery, aiming to reduce packaging volume and improve recyclability and reusability.

Including but not limited to:

• • Develop low-weight, high-strength, and reduced-volume green packaging that meets the basic functional requirements of food delivery packaging;
• • Create recyclable and renewable food delivery packaging made from a single material or one that allows easy separation of different materials, thereby significantly improving their recyclability. (II) [Green Recycling and Reuse] Demonstration and pilot projects for advanced green, low-carbon circular technologies such as the recycling, sorting, cleaning, reuse, and high-value utilization of food delivery packaging. Including but not limited to:
• • Achieve large-scale recycling of food delivery packaging like plastic meal boxes, drink cups, and packaging bags through innovative recycling models and technologies;
• • Utilize advanced intelligent sorting systems to accurately sort food delivery packaging by material, improving the efficiency of large-scale recycling;
• • Develop innovative technologies for recycling, reusing, and modifying plastics to enable high-value applications of recycled plastic pellets such as polypropylene (PP). (III) [Green Supply Chain System] Digital application of green packaging supply chains in the food delivery industry. This includes but is not limited to:
• • Develop digital and information-based platforms to meet the diverse and personalized needs of food service businesses in green packaging;

• • Improve the operational efficiency (such as optimizing recycling routes) and information transparency of the recycling and reuse industry chain through digital means, enabling traceability and promoting efficient recycling of renewable resources.

Application procedure

(I) Submission Deadline:

• Intent Collection Phase: May 22 – August 22, 2023;
• Formal Submission Phase: August 23 – September 23, 2023. Applications submitted after the deadline will not be accepted. (II) Intent collection phase: Applicants fill in the basic project information at the intent collection portal on the Meituan Qingshan Technology Fund official website and submit the application materials for intent collection. (III) Formal application phase: Applicants for “Demonstration Projects” need to log in to the Meituan Qingshan Technology Fund website to complete the online form and upload relevant application materials. The materials include:
• 1. “Application Form for Sci-Tech Innovation Demonstration Projects in China – Meituan Qingshan Environmental Protection”;
• 2. Electronic version of the business license or legal person registration certificate;
• 3. (If available) Electronic copies of approval documents related to the project (such as planning, land use, environmental impact assessment, energy efficiency review, etc.);
• 4. Electronic copies of proof of the advancement of the “model project”’s products/technology, patents, awards, or other relevant supporting materials;
• 5. (If applicable) Electronic version of proof materials showing the involvement and support from industry organizations and local governments;
• 6. Electronic version of other relevant supporting materials.
