The NewGen project aims to support young entrepreneurs around the world in the development and implementation of innovative solutions in the fields of climate and sustainable energy. Help young entrepreneurs accelerate business growth by providing tools, knowledge and support, and provide financing opportunities and business networks. Projects include activities such as training, mentoring, knowledge sharing and market links to expand the business impact of young entrepreneurs, climate and sustainable energy impact, and help them gain investment and implement business plans. The project will select up to 30 young innovators and entrepreneurs who are actively involved in the renewable energy and climate technology markets.

Youth-led start-ups, large-scale companies and growth companies can now receive IRENA's support to promote their growth and business acceleration.

Qualified candidates must meet the following conditions:

  • Young people aged 18 to 35 from all over the world can apply.
  • At least one founder of a startup must be between the ages of 18 and 35.
  • The main business of a start-up should fall into the following categories: a. Renewable energy technologies (solar, wind, hydropower, green hydrogen, geothermal energy and bioenergy) b. Climate adaptation technologies (water security, agriculture and irrigation, livestock, flood protection, resource efficiency) c. Climate change mitigation technologies (transportation, decarbonization, circular economy, energy efficiency, energy transformation and smart grids)
  • At least two startup founders have committed to spending 16 hours a month attending accelerator meetings.
  • By entering the selection process, contestants guarantee that the documents submitted are original works created solely by the applicant and do not infringe on the copyright, trademark, privacy, publicity or intellectual property rights of any individual or entity.
